On July 13-14, 2015, we held a doctoral pre-conference prior to the 4th International Conference on Education held at Kenyatta University and co-sponsored by Syracuse University and Intel.
More than 40 doctoral students from several African countries participated in the pre-conference. Countries represented were Burundi, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, and South Africa.
Prof. Paul Okemo, Dean of the Graduate School at Kenyatta University officially opened the pre-conference. Prof. Joanna Masingila, Dean of the School of Education at Syracuse University and professor of mathematics education, gave a presentation on “Developing Research Question.” Prof. Alan Foley, Associate Professor of Education at Syracuse University, presented on “Literature Review and Theoretical Framework.” Charlotte Flynn, doctoral student and instructor of quantitative research methods, talked about “Quantitative Research Design.”
After each presentation, participants split up into three working groups to apply the ideas just presented and discuss concept papers submitted by doctoral participants. The working groups were facilitated by the presenters and Prof. Moses Ochanji, Associate Professor at California State University, San Marcos, Prof. Penina Kamina, Associate Professor at State University of New York College at Oneonta, Dr. Adelheid Bwire, Lecturer at Kenyatta University, and Dr. Marguerite Miheso-O’Connor, Lecturer at Kenyatta University.
