HED Meetings in Kenya

Staff members from Higher Education for Development (HED), which oversees our partnership through the Africa-U.S. Higher Education Initiative, came to Kenya for meetings with our team on July 11-13, 2011.  Azra Nurkic, Director of Program Quality and Impact, and Kine Liddell, Senior Program Specialist, met with us to discuss our progress and especially our monitoring and evaluation plans.  Terry Hartle, Senior Vice President of the American Council on Education (ACE), also participated in the meetings.  The ACE is the major coordinating body for all higher education institutions in the United States and oversees HED.  Kenya is unique among the 10 African countries to have partnerships through the Africa-U.S. Higher Education Initiative in that there are two partnership projects in Kenya—the Kenyatta University-Syracuse University project and the University of Nairobi-Colorado State University project.  Our meetings included a meeting at the USAID mission in Kenya, where we briefed the USAID/Kenya staff members about our projects and our progress.  The USAID/Kenya staff members expressed their support for our projects and encouraged us to find ways to make our project activities visible in Kenya.
