On June 17, 2014, Alan Foley, Katie Nichiporuk and Joanna Masingila worked with eight Standard 7 and Standard 8 pupils (7th and 8th graders) and three teachers at Kibos School for the Visually Impaired near Kisumu, Kenya. Some of us had visited Kibos last July and had donated some iPods and an iPad with keyboards at that time. This time we had 11 iPads and keyboards to donate.
During the all-day training session on basic skills in using VoiceOver (the built-in screen reader on iOS devices), we had two Kenyatta University students (Job and Hellen) who have used iOS devices and keyboards for 1.5 years assist and support students. Additionally, Mandela, who graduated from Kibos last year and who we worked with last July and is now a university student at Maseno University, helped out.
USAID-Kenya sent a professional photographer to take photos of the training for their website and information.
